Biology is the study of life.
Human Function Project Reflection
- Before this project, we had studied each of the body's systems in the human. This eventually lead up to the human function project.
- The purpose of this project to better our understanding of the systems by doing projects according to our system. Our system was the immune system.
- Our group had no difficulties with deciding on what we would do. We just brought up ideas which were changed into actions.
- My role was creative media and I needed to create some form of video to show the basics of the immune system.
- I'm proud of the video that I made and the examples of diseases and causes that I made. I think that I could have made the pictures and the audio synchronized better. I'll take more time to make the project better quality for the next project. I found that this project helped me learn the process of trial and error. I will take away the perseverance and quality that I put into the project.
Biology Project Reflection
One lab we had done showed the DNA analysis step of extraction. Basically what we did was we swished colored PowerAde around our mouths and combined that with a buffer solution to make the DNA strand visible and easily able to analyze. Another lab we had done was a virtual lab that showed how DNA is amplified for analysis. Throughout the lab, we saw how PCR quickly duplicated DNA markers. Another lab was the electrophoresis gel lab and that showed the separation of cells to perform analysis. Then the last step is analysis and that is where we finally analyzed the DNA and came to a conclusion from the electrophoresis.
My exoneree for the project was Mckinley Cromedy. Mckinley was wrongly accused of rape, burglary, robbery, and terroristic threats. I did the audio visual part of the project and made a movie about the story of his exoneration and the DNA testing that got him out of his sixty year sentence.
From this project, I learned different techniques with making movies like this and this will help me improve my skills with technology and the understanding of DNA analysis.
